Growing Terracotta Celosia Seeds
Terracotta Celosia is a stunning variety known for its warm, earthy orange blooms that resemble flames. This heat-loving annual is perfect for garden beds, borders, and cut flower arrangements, thriving in warm climates with minimal maintenance.
How to Grow Terracotta Celosia Seeds
1. Choosing the Right Location
Terracotta Celosia thrives in full sun (at least 6–8 hours daily) and well-draining, nutrient-rich soil. It prefers a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0–7.0) and does well in garden beds or containers.
2. Sowing the Seeds
- Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost or sow directly outdoors after the danger of frost has passed.
- Lightly press seeds into the soil without covering them—celosia seeds need light to germinate.
- Maintain a temperature of 70–80°F (21–27°C) for optimal germination (which takes about 10–14 days).
3. Watering & Care
- Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged until seedlings establish.
- Once established, water moderately—celosia is drought-tolerant but benefits from consistent moisture.
- Space plants 10–12 inches apart to allow good air circulation.
4. Fertilizing & Maintenance
- Apply a balanced fertilizer (10-10-10) every few weeks to encourage strong growth and vibrant blooms.
- Pinch back young plants to promote bushier growth and more flower production.
- Remove spent flowers to extend the blooming period.
5. Blooming & Harvesting
- Terracotta Celosia blooms 8–12 weeks after planting and continues flowering until frost.
- Ideal for fresh bouquets and dried flower arrangements, as the blooms retain their color when dried.
With its warm, coppery hues and unique texture, Terracotta Celosia adds an elegant, long-lasting touch to any garden while attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies.
